Marketing and Content Intern

May 2019 • Boise, ID

What I liked

I spent the summer working in the content development team. My role began with writing 400-600 word blog posts for real clients under the supervision of my mentors. After learning research and strategy methods specific to the agency, I began working on client web content with local, state, and national organizations. I was given a ton of independence to create how I saw fit. I was also given very clear support in terms of creating meaningful, authentic, and intentional content for the purpose of digital marketing needs.

What I wish was different

I wish I had only committed to this professional experience opportunity because I was trying to manage too much between different roles at different organizations. It was also nerve racking to ask questions at first so I wish I would have asked for regular meetings to better foster mentorships.

Advice

Always say yes. Even if you think you are under-qualified for a position, you should always apply with a resume that demonstrates interests and strengths relative to the specific job posting, provide a concise cover letter in order to prove your willingness and eagerness to perform in the role, and always have samples prepared to submit (even consider bringing them with you to the interview). This was an opportunity I never could have anticipated and did not think I would get. However, I applied and displayed my strengths (and was even transparent about my weaknesses) which allowed me to proved myself early AND often once I was hired in the role.
