Worker Compensation Claims Intern

May 2019 • Fond du Lac, WI

What I liked

Society truly gave me the experience of what a real claims adjuster does. I wasn't just doing meaningless tasks-- I was basically another adjuster with a slightly different title. It's nice to know that when I have to find a full time job after graduation in May I'll have some real, applicable experience. I can apply for entry level positions and know that I have done the full claims process for multiple different states. Society helped me towards getting my professional certifications as well. I feel like an asset now, and know what I'll get into full time and where that can take me long term.

What I wish was different

I wish the training process had been slightly clearer. I also wish that I had been seen as slightly more of an individual; I had to share a cubicle with my fellow intern. This made it slightly difficult to stand out to my department as we were always "the interns" rather than individual employees.

Advice

Don't be afraid to apply for internships that aren't in your home town or near where you're currently living! I drove over an hour to reach Fond du Lac every day, but I truly feel that the experiences Society gave put me above my colleagues and made it worthwhile. While other companies had their interns only verifying their other's claims for coverage, I got to do the whole claims process on my own and far more skills that I can use long term in this field.

Commercial Underwriting INtern

What I liked

LOVED the internship. They took their time to teach us about the company as a whole and all of the departments that make it run successfully.

What I wish was different

I really don't think that I would have made any changes. They kept all of us involved through intern events inside work and outside of work. As well as make everyone feel really included and cared about our experience. I learned so much about the insurance world in such a short amount of time it was great!

Advice

Take all the internships you can before graduation. Stay involved in your workplace and show your interest a they love people who love to learn and always find areas to improve on!
