South Florida CARES Mentoring Program

About South Florida CARES Mentoring Program

Mentoring of at risk youth has become a successful tool to systematically change the way many of our young people can rise above the impact of intergenerational poverty. South Florida Cares Mentoring Program is dedicated to providing interventions that focus on breaking this cycle through Wellness Mentoring Circles. The Wellness Mentoring Circles program is delivered in selected schools under the theme “THE RISING: ELEVATING EDUCATION, EXPECTATIONS AND SELF ESTEEM.”

National CARES Mentoring Movement is the brainchild of our Founder and CEO, Susan Taylor, and is based in New York. South Florida CARES is an affiliate and arm of the program with special focus on “The Rising.” The program has successfully mentored 200,000 students in over 58 US cities over the last 13 years.

Our transformational mentorship program has elevated our students into self-sufficient, caring and confident adults. However, the success of the program is based on an activate and collaborative community level movement. Through visionary School Principals and active Volunteer Mentors, South Florida Cares implements the “Rising Program” curriculum on-site at participating schools and teen detention centers.

The criteria for participation of our mentors include good character and an inclination toward social development as a career; students that are able relate to our underserved youths; and, students that want to give a few hours of their time.
* Volunteer Mentors will have to do basic background check and a resume to be submitted.

“Working with this organization the staff welcome me as if I was one their own from day 1. I love working working with the youth, being able to inspire them and listens to their story. Helping the youth see their own strength from within and helping them practice gratitude. My supervisor always do self check in with to make sure I’m good not just with the intern but with my daily life. ”
