Program Management Intern

June - August 2019 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

This summer, my manager and team were super supportive and helped be define and achieve my goals. The company has great culture where most people are very casual and easily approachable, but everyone is expected to get their work done.

What I wish was different

The onboarding process was not very well defined so it was hard to get up and running at the beginning of the summer. It would've been nice to have had more guidance during the first few weeks, but the lack of structure gave me the opportunity to demonstrate independence by learning about the company and the products I was working on.

Advice

Be confident in yourself and know that it's ok to make mistakes. Internships are a great time to try out different roles, and even try things outside the scope of the role you were hired for. There's no better time and place to experiment with your job because internships are literally meant to be the practice playground for your career.

Advice

Work isn't anything like school. There are no directions, no due dates, no grades. It takes some getting used to but once you acclimate it gets easy. Especially if its with a company you can be passionate about.

Never feel intimidated by anyone, and make an effort to get to know the people you meet at work. We are all human, and nobody is objectively "better" than anyone else. Don't just network, build genuine relationships that can last after your internship.
