About Our Club
Sporting Kansas City was introduced as one of the 10 charter members of MLS on June 6, 1995. On August 31, 2006, a group of Kansas City entrepreneurs ushered in a new era for the professional soccer club previously known as the Kansas City Wizards. A group led by Neal Patterson and Cliff Illig, two of the founders of healthcare software pioneer company Cerner Corporation, along with Pat Curran, Greg Maday, and Robb Heineman purchased the club from club founder Lamar Hunt and the Hunt Sports Group. On November 17, 2010, the Kansas City Wizards officially became Sporting Kansas City. After several seasons of the team playing in temporary venues, on June 9, 2011, Sporting Park, now called Children’s Mercy Park, opened, securing the future of professional soccer in Kansas City for years to come.
At Sporting Kansas City, we continually strive to win championships, deliver a world-class performance on and off the field, create the finest fan experience, be connected to the community, and innovate in all that we do.
