Springfield Public Schools is Missouri’s largest fully accredited school district. We have built a reputation of academic excellence based on the outstanding performance of our students and schools. Over 25,000 students attend 36 elementary schools, an intermediate school (grades 5 – 6), nine middle schools, five high schools and three early childhood centers. In addition, we offer more than a dozen Choice Programs that cater to the diverse needs of many students including the International Baccalaureate program, Wonders of the Ozarks Learning Facility (WOLF), Health Sciences Academy @Mercy, Academy of Exploration and the Middle College Program. All five of our district high schools are designated Missouri A+ Schools.
Each of our schools and programs align with our three primary district goals of improving student achievement and our graduation rate, and ensuring effective and efficient use of resources. So, while we offer much variety, there is consistency in our effort to provide the best education possible to all our students.
A Tradition of Excellence
Springfield Public Schools has a long tradition of providing quality education to all students and exceeding community expectations. Here are some of our accomplishments:
•SPS seniors consistently score above state and national averages on ACT composite scores. In 2008, our high schools graduated 12 National Merit Scholarship finalists.
•SPS has the state's only K-12 International Baccalaureate program.
•The Springfield community has recently invested more than $156 million to improve its education facilities. Improvements since 2000 include total renovation of two high schools, construction of two new schools and significant expansion or remodeling of other schools.
•SPS ensures a quality learning environment by recruiting and retaining highly qualified teachers. They average about 13 years of teaching experience and more than 62% have advanced degrees.
•Ten district schools were named 21 times in 2008 to Missouri Top 10 lists of high performing schools. Among all Missouri public school districts, Springfield had the second largest number of schools on Top 10 lists.
