About SSAB Americas

SSAB is one of the largest North American producers of steel plate and coil, serving many industrial markets including energy, construction, agriculture and transportation. SSAB is committed to being North America’s steel supplier of choice, with five state-of-the-art facilities strategically located in key regions across the U.S. and Canada. SSAB steel is found in the infrastructure that builds and moves the world - in heavy machinery, ships, wind towers, rail cars and more - playing a vital role in people’s daily lives.

SSAB, a global market leader in steel production, based in Stockholm, Sweden, has its Americas headquarters in Mobile, Alabama. SSAB Americas supports one steel manufacturing facility in Montpelier, Iowa; and three Value+ (cut-to-length) facilities in Houston, Texas, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; and St. Paul, Minn. SSAB’s Special Steels division supports the steel manufacturing facility in Mobile.

SSAB steel mills in North America are cost-effective sources for high quality steel in a wide range of sizes — steel of exceptional flatness and superior surface quality. The mills also provide downstream services on product, such as coil slitting, blasting and painting, and heat treatments (normalized or quenched & tempered). The Value+ locations process coils of various widths, gauges and grades.

SSAB is taking the next step towards a more sustainable future, with the world’s first emission-free steel of its kind. In North America, our mills produce SSAB Zero™, which is made from recycled steel and produced with fossil-free electricity and renewable natural gas – resulting in steel with virtually no fossil carbon emissions.

SSAB’s vision is for a stronger, lighter and more sustainable world.

Refractory Summer Help

June 2019 - August 2019 Axis, AL
“I encountered a highly skilled group of knowledgeable people who were friendly and willing to teach me about things both relevant and irrelevant to my current task. Even well outside of my field of study, people were happy to tell me about their work, the significance of small details to the overall operation, and more. I very much enjoyed working around the folks at SSAB. ”
