Stanley Black & Decker - Outdoor

Security & Networking

May - August 2020 • Valley City, OH

What I liked

The opportunities. I got to network with so many different departments and different level employees. The collaboration was very beneficially.

What I wish was different

For it to be more in-person, but due to covid 19 it was mainly remote.

Advice

Take advantage of the time you have at internships.

Accounting Intern

June 2019 - December 2020 • Willard, OH

What I liked

I liked having a mentor to teach me instead of telling me what to do. A lot of hands on experience regarding fixed assets and journal entries.

What I wish was different

Nothing.

Advice

Look for a boss/coworkers who are willing to teach you things. It is very valuable when combined with the schooling you have attended.

Equipment Tester

June - August 2019 • Valley City, OH

What I liked

I liked being able to meet new people at the company and everyone was more than willing to answer any questions I had. If you want to learn more, they make sure to assist you in any way they can.

What I wish was different

I was one of the only girls in the testing department and some of the older men weren't respectful. It took HR way too long to take action.

Advice

Bring headphones, noise-cancelling ear protection, and sunscreen!

Accountant Intern

June 2019 • Willard, OH

What I liked

Very good company to work for. People around you cared and made sure you were not lost anywhere at any time regarding the work. I was doing real world work every single day for 40+ hours a week and it was very beneficial.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to start sooner such as right after school ended.

Advice

One piece of advice would be to not settle. I found an internship that suited my values. The biggest one being having a boss that cares and walks you through things that are unfamiliar and won’t give up on you or not give you work because they think you can’t handle it. Overall, do not go in blind, you can still choose where you accept to go.

What I liked

Great place to work for. Everyone is super friendly. Very relevant work experience. Very Familiar with the products made my time there much more fun as they looked to me for suggestions.

What I wish was different

Sometimes the work load was a little light

Advice

If you have the opportunity to get an internship do it. Especially for MTD. You learn a lot and gain valuable skills and knowledge.
