I enjoyed that I was able to learn through different people about the key concepts of probation and parole. My office was at a police department, and I enjoyed the relationship I was able to develop with law enforcement and learn their role with probation and parole. I was also able to have my own case load which allowed me to put my learning to the test and gain confidence in the field.
What I wish was different
I wish that I could have been there longer as I really enjoyed this internship. I really do not have any complaints about my experience in this department and the people that I was able to connect with.
Advice
I would tell someone to dive in hands-on and sit in on as many situations as they allow you to. This helped me learn by watching and doing and when I did tasks on my own it helped me develop and remember the importance of each task. Also, asking questions, was something I was nervous about at first but became something that allowed me to enhance my skills and increase my ability to do things on my own.
