What I liked

Working on an independent project was a lot of fun. Taught me particular skills about working towards a goal. There was ample support from my boss as well as support from other functions. Overall, it was a great experience during COVID.

What I wish was different

Had COVID not struck, I would have loved to be in person. But overall, it was great!

Advice

Everyone is talented and eager to see you shine as well! Don't worry too much about inadequacies, just try your best and everyone around you will be infected by that energy!

What I liked

Everything! The work was interesting, the team and management were kind and friendly, and I learned so much!

What I wish was different

I wish I'd had more interaction with other interns in general, I really only engaged with other interns during the Hackathon.

Advice

Don't be afraid to just reach out to people, nobody holds being an intern against you and everyone is eager to help out in any way!

Technology BLP Intern

What I liked

My goal before starting my internship as a Tech BLP was to learn how to bridge my engineering/technical experiences with business functionalities within the marketing/finance tracks at Synchrony. I loved that I had the freedom to explore my own interests, and was able to complete 2 extra projects that involved both the Marketing B2B team and Tech tracks on top of my assigned Tech-only summer project. I was given the opportunity to have real leadership experiences within different cross functional projects, and left earning a full time position! Other things I liked: free housing, great pay, diverse workplace

What I wish was different

I wish there would have been intern related cross functional projects, or a large intern group related end of the summer project.

Advice

You'll learn to be comfortable being uncomfortable-- it's the best way to learn new things!

What I liked

Synchrony gives their interns meaningful work and encourages them to learn as much as possible. I truly enjoyed interning here since I was able to improve my analytical and problem solving skills. Synchrony’s Business Leadership Program also works to improve your strengths throughout the summer.

Advice

I would say to always network as much as possible so that you can get to know your team and the company better.

Compliance Intern, Business Leadership Program

What I liked

Everyone was unbelievably kind and patient. My boss is a brilliant woman and a mom and stereotypically successful in her career, which was really neat to have modeled for me. Additionally, I wasn't doing work that was "intern" work. I never got anyone coffee, unless it was like a fun/thoughtful thing. I built a database, sat in on external exams with the CFPB, and investigation Anti Money Laundering cases. Highly recommend.

What I wish was different

I wish I had taken the time while there to reach out to more people within the company.

Advice

Don't be afraid to take a job outside of what you feel is your skill set if it is interesting to you. I knew absolutely nothing about the cooperate world going into this internship and they truly took the time to set me up for success. You never know what your hidden talents may be!
