What I liked

My teammates were amazing, and I felt like I was paid to learn constantly. I gained a lot of valuable hard and soft skills from this internship. Tableau facilitates an incredible internship program and really strives to make you feel welcome and connect with as many people in the company as possible.

What I liked

I loved all the support and mentoring I received throughout the internship. I got to take ownership of my internship project and work with my team to ship code. In addition to incredible professional development, I also enjoyed many intern-bonding events including a trip to Seattle for an Intern Summit. To top it all off, the people who work at Tableau are awesome and make a healthy, vibrant work environment.

Software Engineering Intern

May - August 2018 • Palo Alto, CA

What I liked

I loved that the Palo Alto office was smaller and everyone was collocated, so meeting with team members was very easy. Everyone was super friendly, helpful, intelligent, and hardworking. I also had the privilege of working on one of their new teams working on a product currently in the Alpha phase. All around a great company with an amazing culture and employees.

What I wish was different

Not much. I lived in SF and had to make the hour - hour and half commute every day, but that was a choice I made. The development process also varies by team and while the build process for products is improving, it can still take a bit of time and hinder productivity at times.

Advice

Just how wonderful everyone I met was and how much I thoroughly enjoyed the work experience. I managed to develop a feature that is in production and will be used by customers, while also learning new languages and working across the stack.
