Tampa Bay Lightning

Graphic Design Intern

May - August 2018 • Tampa, FL

What I liked

I liked that I stayed busy the entire summer working on RFP projects for real client pitches and presentations. I enjoyed being a part of the marketing department for a National Hockey League. Additionally, I was able to improve my graphic design skills because of the variety of projects I completed over the summer, and I was able to build up my portfolio, along with my connections.

What I wish was different

I wished I would have been able to work on my Lightning related projects, since I didn't receive many until my last day when I was given the chance to work on sales posters. The main project I worked on were deck presentation, and after completing several, the work became very repetitive and I thrived for a change.

Advice

I recommend being open to the people you will be able to work with. I felt I was shy at first, but as I became more comfortable in the environment, I felt like I was able to build a better connection with my coworkers in the marketing department. I also advise requesting new projects, in order to help build up your experience and make your time at an internship even more worthwhile with the knowledge you gain.
