About Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, Inc. (TRLA)

Established in 1970, Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) is a nonprofit organization that provides a full range of legal services to low-income and disadvantaged clients in a 68-county service area that covers the southwestern third of the state of Texas, including the entire Texas-Mexico border region. TRLA also serves migrant and seasonal farm workers throughout Texas and six southern states (Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky). The 68 counties include the cities of Austin, San Antonio, Victoria, Corpus Christi, Laredo, El Paso and the Lower Rio Grande Valley. TRLA also operates a public defender service for clients accused of crimes in a number of its counties. As a grantee of the Legal Services Corporation, to qualify for free civil legal services, clients must have an income at or below 125 percent of federal poverty guidelines. Currently, TRLA's service area encompasses well over 1,200,000 income eligible Texas residents.

Texas RioGrande Legal Aid's mission is to promote the dignity, self-sufficiency, safety and stability of low-income Texans by providing high quality civil legal assistance and related educational services.
