About The Barnes Foundation

The mission of the Barnes is to promote the advancement of education and the appreciation of the fine arts and horticulture.

Our founder, Dr. Albert C. Barnes, believed that art had the power to improve minds and transform lives. Our diverse educational programs are based on his teachings and one-of-a-kind collections.

Graphic Design Intern

June 2019 - August 2019 Philadelphia, PA
“My experience was incredible overall, but my favorite part was the people I worked with. My mentors on the Barnes' graphic design team were incredibly kind, helpful, and supportive. I felt like I could go to them with questions and they taught me many small tips and tricks that saved time and energy. They were professional yet very fun to work with and they inspired me to become a better designer. Since the Barnes design team is in-house, I worked with a variety of other Barnes departments like Archives, Education, Public Programming, and Marketing, so I also built connections throughout the institution. Additionally, because the Barnes is so small, it was easy to get to know people and make connections. The Barnes internship program is also very comprehensive. On Fridays, interns across the institution met for enrichment days that consisted of meetings with Barnes departments and their roles in the institution allowing interns to understand the behind-the-scenes workings of a non-profit organization. Lastly, the Barnes used the work I created and it was exciting to see my work hung around the institution, distributed at events, and circulated on the Barnes social media accounts!”
