The Boston Globe

Audience Engagement Co-op

July - December 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I have learned so much throughout this co-op. This is my second co-op with The Boston Globe and the community is so welcoming. The networking opportunities are endless and so many fantastic people to learn from.

What I wish was different

Nothing, it is an amazing program.

Advice

Ask questions, meet as many people as possible, and try not to say no to new things!

July 2018 • Boston, MA

What I liked

It was a completely hands-on experience. My editor treated me as a responsible staff member, and I was sent to cover really amazing stories.

What I wish was different

I wouldn’t change a thing.

Advice

Pitch stories, be open to covering any type of story, and hustle!

City Desk Co-op

July 2018 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I like the fact that I'm completely immersed in a real, large newspaper environment. I do some menial work, but the bulk of my shift every day is composed of real newspaper work — doing interviews, reporting in the field, and writing articles. I like that it's a professional environment and that my superiors trust me.

What I wish was different

I wish it had been more welcoming. No one in the newsroom, other than the editors I work with every day and the other co-ops, ever introduced themselves to me.

Advice

To someone who might have this position in the future, I'd say be confident, make connections, and ask questions.
