What I liked

I loved the whole experience. I was able to learn something new everyday, while having fun hanging out with kids, and being part of a greater good.

What I wish was different

If had been longer.

Advice

Take opportunities, as many as you can, even things you don't see yourself loving you might be surprised about what you enjoy doing.

Information Technology Intern

May - August 2019 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

Getting to work and interact with clients on occasion was very meaningful to me. They all had a lot of stories to tell, and since I got lunch in the cafeteria every day, I got to see them and hear from them all the time. Especially when I got to see some of them graduate from the program, it made me feel that what I was doing was actually making a difference in someone's life.

Advice

To be honest with your supervisor up front about your experience level. My supervisor thought I had experience in web development and wanted me to build an intranet for them, even though I had no experience. I managed to learn quickly and succeeded in making one, but if I had said something near the beginning I could have had a different experience there.

Youth Programming Assistant

May - August 2018 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

I loved working in a Christian faith-based environment where my supervisors and fellow interns poured love and support into me while I ministered to the women and children. The City Mission's mission to "provide help and hope to all people through the transforming power of God's love" is transforming lives in the city of Cleveland, and I loved joining them in their work. The City Mission cares so deeply for their clients and staff, and they really helped me to discern my strengths, weaknesses, and purpose. I loved introducing the children to Jesus, maturing in my relationship with God, and exploring my interests in family ministry and social work.
