eCommerce Sales & Customer Analytics Intern

June - July 2019 • Pleasanton, CA

What I liked

I liked how small my team was and the amount of responsibility they gave me right from the start. My project was a direct business need that was actively sought after from me and used immediately.

What I wish was different

I wish that there was a bigger emphasis on diversity both in age and race. I heard about the internship from a diversity program they partnered with, which is a great step in securing diverse talent, however in the office I was still hard pressed to see many other employees of color. I will say I never felt left out or unwelcome, as there were active conversations going on in the company internally about promoting change since Clorox is very old. But at the end of the day it still was a community to actively be sought out in comparison to some of the other Bay Area companies and firms it is more apparent in.

Advice

I would say with any internship, not just this one, to make sure you secure a mentor who will be brutally honest in advocating for your own personal development and success. Everyone is very nice and welcoming when you're the intern, especially at Clorox where "Clorox Nice" is a real saying when describing co-workers, but you still need someone to tell you what isn't a suggestion or a polite request as it's hard to discern when you're so new.

IT Intern

June - August 2019 • Pleasanton, CA

What I liked

The culture and the people, very willing to help you learn and advance your career

What I wish was different

Management to be more responsive to interests of the interns, not have interns be required to go to events that they are not interested in

Advice

Ask for what you want to do and for projects you want to work on!!

Data Analyst

January 2017 • Pleasanton, CA

What I liked

The company has a great culture and work-life balance. Benefits are decent and coworkers are amazing. It is like home and these are all besides the great opportunities I have to learn about new technologies and great ideas in my day to day job.

What I wish was different

I wish I had a more relevant education that could help me with my work. I wish we’d learned more about how supply chain works besides our technical courses.

Advice

Probably have more self-confidence.

R&D Intern

June - August 2018 • Willowbrook, IL

What I liked

I really loved the people I worked with and the culture at Clorox. Everyone was always very friendly and patient as I was going through the process of learning about research, testing, and manufacturing processes. My project was also great. I had a lot of control over the direction of the project, and felt like I was helping my group make progress towards their goals for the next few fiscal years. I also got the opportunity to spend a week at the Clorox HQ in Pleasanton, CA. It was really fun to meet all of the other interns, along with the CEO, and get a feel for all of the facilities and programs available to full-time employees.

What I wish was different

In Willowbrook, there were only two interns, and we were assigned our projects. Out in Pleasanton, the R&D interns went through a mini-career fair sort of process with all of the available projects and got some choice in what they would be working on over the summer. I have no complaints about my project, but I think that would have been really cool. The other hard part about being in Willowbrook is that it's a remote location, and the time difference between IL and CA can make scheduling meetings cross-department or cross-functionally somewhat difficult.

Advice

Clorox is known for their Inclusion and Diversity. When you're talking to recruiters or even at work, just be yourself! You will do your best work when you bring your whole self to work and don't feel the need to suppress any part of your personality, appearance, or self.
