The Estée Lauder Companies, Inc.

IT Supply Chain

June - August 2023 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I liked the community and how we were part of such a large company. Similarly, I learned how big departments of a company work together. The atmosphere and office is really nice and I learned a lot.

What I wish was different

I wish I got more experience coding, but you get LinkedIn learning for this.

Advice

I would try your hardest and see which departments are taking on new projects because this is where they will be hiring.

Technology Analyst Intern

July - August 2020 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Although my experience was remote, the internship program leads did a wonderful job of bringing the high-touch ELC culture to our internship. All employees were incredibly friendly and open to networking and sharing about their journey and experience at ELC. The work I did felt valuable and I was provided many great opportunities to present to leadership.

What I wish was different

Advice

Definitely use the time to meet as many people as you can, especially those who have been at the company for 10+ years!

Marketing Intern

June - August 2022 • Irvine, CA

What I liked

The internship program was well organized and the hybrid model worked well. Every Monday, all interns (regardless of brand placement) joined educational sessions that were extremely informative and we got to hear from senior and C-level executives. The work assigned actually felt as if it was contributing to the company and I also had the chance to complete and present a final project at the end of the summer.

What I wish was different

The workload was distributed very unevenly and sometimes had very little to do, especially on virtual days. There was also very little interaction with the other interns.

Advice

Take advantage of your time at the company and be sure to set up coffee chats to get to know other departments and opportunities!

Paralegal

June 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

To know that this type of position existed

What I wish was different

It was a random networking experience. I was at a party and met an attorney who told me about the idea of combining my love of fashion with law specifically becoming a paralegal

Advice

I learned that my soft skills gave me the ability to articulate my needs and networking isn't a skill I didn't know I have.

Consumer Engagement Intern

July - August 2020 • Culver City, CA

What I liked

I loved the culture of the company. I met with my manager daily to assess my strengths, weaknesses, and interests in addition to being filled in on the current events and calendar timeline of the brand I worked on, Smashbox Cosmetics. Additionally, the company hosted Education Days every Monday to give insight on various brands and positions within the company. We got to hear from the CEO and directly ask questions.

What I wish was different

I wish it was in person instead of virtual, but given that it was a swift adjustment to environments it went very well. I would have like more company sanctioned opportunities to network with other interns.

Advice

My advice would be to write down what you do everyday and share your learning goals with your coworkers. My team was so gracious and helpful that I felt encouraged to send emails beyond the department, and ended up with a network of fantastic business people who were more than willing to share their experiences with me over a video call. Writing down daily tasks helped me to better describe my function as an intern and speak to my experience better in interviews and on my resume.

Human Resources Intern

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

It was extremely fulfilling to be able to apply the knowledge and skills I gained through both my courses and involvement with CAPE to my work at my internship with ELC. As an advocate for mental health awareness, I was thrilled to be a part of the implementation of a mental health training at ELC. I also developed very meaningful connections during my internship. Living in a new city for the summer, especially a in a large one like New York City was also a plus!

What I wish was different

I do wish that ELC provided more benefits for their interns, such as housing assistance. Because of how large and prestigious ELC is, I did not want to decline the opportunity to intern with them, but considering how expensive New York City is, finding a place on my own was a little difficult.

Advice

I would advise my peers to take risks and be open to new opportunities! Having an open mind definitely enriched my experience this summer immensely, as it allowed myself to both enhance and develop skills, as well as learn more about my personal and career interests.

Global Communication Intern

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved being able to take the knowledge gained by smaller internships/jobs and applying them to a large scale company. I received a lot of good advice about the marketing sector of the company despite being a communications intern. As a double major, this piece was beneficial.

What I wish was different

I wish I had gotten more involved with other parts of the company by requesting more of people's time!

Advice

Do not let the global scale of the company intimidate you! Let this be a time to learn about the scope of communication and business across borders.

Master Data Management Intern

June - August 2018 • Melville, NY

What I liked

The internship did a great job showing the interns what different opportunities Estee Lauder offers. We also went on different trips to see how the makeup is made, manufactured and sold.

What I wish was different

The first day of my internship I had a training course, which lasted most of the day. It was a lot to take in and I believe if I was given some of the information prior to the first day I could have looked it over and came in more prepared.

Advice

During you internship experience do not be nervous or scared to ask questions and build your network. I have made great connections with both the other interns and my coworkers.
