The GO Project, Inc.

Teaching Assistant (Preschool, Elementary, Middle, and Secondary School)

July - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I appreciated the opportunity to work with children and the opportunity to gain advice from fellow colleagues with more experience.

What I wish was different

I wish I recieved more information about children’s academic and socio-emotional struggles, that was the biggest hurdle I had to overcome as a teaching assistant.

Advice

Mistakes happen when you don’t ask someone more experienced for advice. Transparency among your colleagues is extremely important. With the children, be as engaged as possible. They can tell when you are disconnected, and will use that to their advantage.

Program Assistant

May - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved the opportunity to work in such a collaborative environment. I really felt like my ideas and suggestions were valued. Similarly, the supportive work environment allowed me to flourish and learn about proper organization, time management and develop leadership skills.

What I wish was different

Towards the beginning of the program, I felt there were times in which I lacked structure. Being somebody who thrives on perfect scheduling and timing, I found it difficult to go about my daily assignments without having a schedule. After the first week or two, my schedule began to fall into place and I found my productivity sky rocket.

Advice

If you like working with kids, this is definitely the job for you!
