The Sargent House Museum

Internship

June - August 2018 • Gloucester, MA

What I liked

I liked how we got to work on historical artifacts, and learn about the life of Judith Sargent Murray, a local historical figure who wrote "On The Equality of The Sexes" in 1790. In the internship, a few other interns and I worked to help out with a new project where we found some items in storage and worked to create a new display by researching each item found and putting it in an unused room which now can be toured with the rest of the museum. I like that particular group project of ours as we got to contribute something entirely new to the museum's displays.

What I wish was different

I wish we had a longer time in the internship, and started our project earlier so we could go more in depth into researching each new artifact from storage, and planned the layout of the exhibit in more detail.

Advice

I really loved the experience, as I love history. I'd say to try out a summer internship like this one, because it is fun, and you will hone your skills as a researcher, especially if you want to go into any type of historical or museum work.
