The Spaceship Company

Propulsion Engineer

May - August 2018 • Mojave, CA

What I liked

Small Company Atmosphere Lots of Hands on Experiences Freedom to Work without being Micromanaged Rocket Motor Testing!!!

What I wish was different

The pay was sub par, and the location required an hour commute. They set all of the interns up in a hotel where one had to sleep on a pull out sofa. I would've rather been paid a little extra and picked a location closer to work.

Advice

Don't be afraid to walk around and ask people what they are doing in the middle of the work day. You might learn something amazing or find yourself on a project you didn't anticipate because you took the time to ask questions.

Design engineer

January 2018 • Mojave, CA

What I liked

Working for a relatively small company has given me the responsibility of several spaceship systems, which one would not get at a huge company. The size has also allowed me to work with cross functional teams including stress, structures, propulsion, and manufacturing. I've gotten hands on experience with manufacturing carbon fiber parts and also gotten a lot of design experience from this job. The team is awesome and our goal of sending paying passengers to space is inspiring.
