Timber-lee

Recreational Counselor

June 2016 - August 2019 • East Troy, WI

What I liked

The community built is phenomenal, an incredibly fun and educational experience. You get so many opportunities to try new things outside of your department, and its an incredibly relaxing environment for those who enjoy being outside and working with kids.

What I wish was different

The hiring process was a bit rocky this summer, as many people did not get the position they applied for. Lots of shuffling around throughout the summer to fill in the gaps.

Advice

Flexibility is a must, as you will be put into positions you may want. Be willing and able, and preserve your stamina to last through the three months.

Cabin Counselor

June - August 2019 • East Troy, WI

What I liked

Timber-lee takes their role as a ministry very seriously. They understand that the most important thing for effective ministry is an effective community in which to do ministry. The first two weeks of June are dedicated to developing this community as well as the ministry skills needed to glorify God as best as we can.

What I wish was different

There were a few rules for staff that were taken a little bit too far sometimes. I understand why the rules themselves exist, we were there to serve the campers and do ministry, but at the same time, camp was our home, too. I think that's a balance that will take a while for the camp to figure out, but I have faith and hope that they will be able to.

Advice

Take every step possible to avoid ministry burnout. I burned out pretty hardcore at the end of the summer and it took me about 4-5 weeks to recover from it.

Camp Counselor

June - August 2018 • East Troy, WI

What I liked

I loved working outside all summer long. Working with kids and peers, doing fun and exciting activities and sharing Christ's love to children.

What I wish was different

I wish we were given a little more time off during our weekends which consisted of 23 hours.

Advice

I say it is what you make of it. If you have a golden attitude during your time at camp it can make any undesirable situation into an opportunity to make the most out of something.
