I liked that I was able to pick up a new skill that I know will be helpful if I ever decide to work at another cafe in the future.

I wish that i was not the only one working during a majority of my shifts. It would have made the job easier.

One piece of advice would be not to stress out if you have a line of customers, especially on a busy day.

Being paid any money at all.

What I wish was different

The hours I signed up for were significantly different from the ones I got, which slashed the money I was able to make. The union expected me to pay $11 a week as a part time worker, despite having no protection from the union as a part-time worker. I have always been and will continue to be a strong supporter and protector of unions, but this one was positively predatory.

Advice

If you can find a job that isn't at Tops, do it. They are cheap, the food is terrible, and it is not a fun place to work. I could go on, but suffice to say that I have very little interest in returning unless I am absolutely unable to find a job anywhere else. Still, the bakery was better than most places in the company.

Tops is a great job to start out in. They keep you on as an employee even if you’re away at college. You can come back at anytime and it’s no problem. You get a lot of hours.
