Toy Records NYC

A&R Intern

October - December 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

You got to work independently. But that even was to a fault where no one spoke to each other.

What I wish was different

They were very disorganized and you would only see the head of each department once a week because that’s when they had to watch over the interns. They wouldn’t communicate with each other so I was only given an A&R related assignment when I saw the person in charge of A&R. When the Graphic Design head was around I was only given creative assignments that didn’t match my skill set, and when I asked to do something else they were very unwilling to accommodate me despite 4 people working on that same assignment.

Advice

It is a good internship if you are interested in the creative, such as film, photography, or making beats, but they know as much about business as you do so don’t bother if that’s what you are trying to learn more about.

The hands-on experience I got in the music industry
