Remote Intern

June - July 2020 • Yerevan, Armenia

What I liked

I liked how my supervisor and employees there taught me a lot about Armenia and the structure of the state in addition to my research work. I learned a lot about their government and civil society/culture which I enjoyed because it is very different from American culture. Armenian people are very vibrant and it is amazing to hear about their history and experiences.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to travel there as planned, but due to COVID-19, my only option was to do this remotely.

Advice

I would say that as a remote intern, it is important to take extra steps to make sure you are learning and engaging with your fellow interns and supervisors. Doing an internship from home is not necessarily easy or the same experience, but it is truly up to you to make the best experience out of it and get exposure to the field. It requires extra effort and you must be up to the challenge, but it is very rewarding in the end.
