Tyler Technologies

Software Development Intern

May - August 2020 • Troy, MI

What I liked

Fellow interns, full-time developers and team leads, HR, project managers and other higher level executives. Great company culture and meaningful projects to work on. Also great work-life balance as well.

What I wish was different

Being able to work on-site rather than remotely.

Advice

Spend a few hours after work each day to review and learn new material for the first two weeks. This really helps catch you up to speed and set yourself up to be successful throughout the internship.

What I liked

The company has a great atmosphere and good people. It allowed me to work on actual work with the team from toward the beginning. Also the managers were able to work with me to improve my experience.

What I wish was different

I wish they had a little more structure to the internship in the beginning or given goals they wanted from me. But other than that it was a good experience.

Software Development Intern

May - August 2018 • Falmouth, ME

What I liked

I liked being able to work with the company's live code base and make client-facing improvements. I also liked the laid-back company culture and my extremely friendly, helpful co-workers.

What I wish was different

I wish the company had provided housing - I had to stay at USM for the summer, which was usually a 40 minute commute.

Advice

Don't feel like you have to get an internship at a huge company or high-powered startup - there are plenty of tech jobs at laid-back companies like Tyler that pay well and give great job experience.
