I enjoyed learning about constituent services, hearing from members of my community, 'and building relationships with my supervisors, who I now consider sources of advice/
What I wish was different
I wish I had been given more research and policy work day to day. Much of my job related to answering and directing phone calls from constituents, which could be slow during the summer and the Congressional recess.
Advice
Take advantage of your supervisors. They're incredible resources for advice and recommendations.

Congressional Intern
June - August 2020 • Washington, DC
What I liked
I loved everything I did and learned. The office was amazing and so kind. They were the best teachers and fellow coworkers someone could ask for. I felt that I really was giving back to my country in a small way by learning about it and helping fellow citizens.
What I wish was different
COVID had not been a thing.
Advice
Don't be afraid of people who call and are rude on the phone. They're just people like you and me. Just be calm and kind, no matter what.

Communications Intern
March - August 2019 • Miami, FL
What I liked
The office made the interna part of the team since day 1. They taught us case work and how to do briefings. We were assigned real cases the first week we started working at the office.
What I wish was different
The office in Washington D.C. was not in touch with the district office. There were some communication issues.
Advice
Be open to recognize your errors and communicate to your superior. When doing casework, other people’s daily living depend on it.
