HSI is the principal investigative arm of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, responsible for investigating transnational crime and threats, including both individuals and criminal organizations that exploit the global infrastructure through which international trade, travel, and finance move. HSI investigates violations of laws pertaining to drug smuggling, weapons trafficking, child exploitation, bulk cash smuggling and money laundering, cybercrimes, human smuggling and trafficking, worksite enforcement, commercial fraud, as well as other areas concerning border security, homeland security, and public safety. HSI maintains 237 offices within the United States and 93 international offices in 56 countries around the world.
