Honors Intern
June 2019 • Chantilly, VA
What I liked
I learned how to communicate efficiently and quickly from place to place and learn the everyday language the DOJ uses in order to respond quickly. My job was to look for the latest breaches, report them to the appropriate sector, place, or legat. I was also tasked with writing reports of any international fraud or illegal wire transfers that happened between the U.S and an international bank. My current job is evidence review, and I am reviewing a case that involves massive fraud, illegal wire transfers, and illicit corporate practices. I also really liked the freedom and trust they placed in me since I did things in my own pace, and there was no stress since the whole team was working on a particular case.
What I wish was different
More training to use some of the sensitive but really cool cyber equipment in order catch bad guys. What those certain equipment are and what they do is top secret.
Advice
Don't be nervous about taking the polygraph and be truthful as a polygraph is required for this job, even if you did something illegal its alright to mention what you did, if the examiner asks. For example, I told my examiner that I jay-walked in middle school, and he simply laughed and said he did too. For my job, I was required to obtain and I currently hold onto a Top Secret/SCI Clearance with a Full Scope Polygraph.

What I liked
I learned things from working there that I never thought I would. I was able to participate in real work and be useful more than I thought I would be.
What I wish was different
I did not always have something to do when I came in so I wish we were assigned a person who would help us obtain work so we could always be doing something.
Advice
Do the internship. Even if you don't think it will be your career it is an awesome experience.
