U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations

Intern

May - July 2019 • Washington, DC

What I liked

Being able to be right in the center of U.S. foreign policy and being able to be involved in every step of the legislation making. It was interesting to learn more about how government actually runs versus what they teach you in classes. I realized that I really didn't know anything about how government works.

What I wish was different

I learned so much and had such an incredible experience that I can't think of anything I would change. I personally would have liked to have had more internships in DC before this one.

Advice

For those that are looking for jobs during an internship, it's all about timing and making yourself available. I was offered the internship last minute, switched my last semester of classes last minute to be able to complete the internship, and there happened to be a job opening at the committee that because I postponed applying for grad school- I was able to stay and work for the committee.
