Substation Engineering Intern

May 2021 • Boise, ID

What I liked

I loved working with my team and the atmosphere that we had. I enjoyed that I was able to jump into projects and feel like a valued member of the team. I wasn't doing busy work and small things that you see some interns doing sometimes.

What I wish was different

I wish that it could've been in person so I was able to meet my coworkers or taken a trip out at least once this summer.

Advice

Something I always think after my internships is to not be afraid to ask questions. You don't know what you don't know and you're not going to know unless you start asking questions.

Electrical Engineering Intern

May 2018 • Denver, CO

What I liked

I liked being able to apply the concepts I learned in class to real-life design problems. I also enjoyed the environment I worked in, including the people and the activities we got to do together. I also liked making money over the summer which allowed me to do more things like travel.

What I wish was different

There were a few days (not many) where I didn't have much to work on, so I wish that those days where I had down-time were filled with stuff for me to do.

Advice

Never be afraid to ask questions because people expect you to ask them anyway. Sometimes you may feel like you're bothering someone by asking a lot of questions, but it is a good thing to ask them. You're not expected to know everything when you start a new job, so ASK!
