United Rentals, Inc.

Sales Intern

May - August 2023 • Athens, GA

What I liked

I enjoyed shadowing every position within the United Rentals Company. My knowledge of equipment sales/rentals grew tremendously. It was such an experience to be able to have this opportunity with such an amazing business that cares about their employees.

What I wish was different

I would have enjoyed being able to actually do each job, however, being an intern, I was very limited on what I tasks I could complete.

Advice

Even if you do not know anything about construction equipment, you are still capable of this experience! The company is willing to start you from the ground up. I have the opportunity to apply for a position in the company after graduation and I am grateful for that.

summer sales Intern

May - August 2019 • Charleston, SC

What I liked

I loved how the entire internship was broken into an organized 8 week program allowing you to see each aspect of the company and what it has to offer. United Rentals is a very team and family oriented company with it first priority being employee safety and helping all employees to live a safe work and home life style. If you want to join a company that cares and that will make you feel welcome and help you grow this is it.

What I wish was different

There is not much I can really say that I would do differently besides maybe getting out of my comfort zone earlier in the internship. If I could go back or encourage anyone that is going into an Internship I'd say try everything and don't worry about messing up because the whole point of the internship is to learn real life skills.

Advice

I would say go to work with a mindset that you are ready to work but more so ready to try new things and not scared to fail or scared that you will look bad because you don't know everything. Learn absolutely everything you can possible even if it’s in a department you don't necessarily think you would like to work in.

Sales Intern

May - July 2019 • Miami, FL

What I liked

I loved the work atmosphere and the close environment that the employees shared. I felt very welcomed and comfortable although most of the surrounding employees had been there at least 10 years. The particular branch that I worked at was very busy, so I got a ton of experience talking to customers both via phone and in person.

What I wish was different

I wish that I was able to explore the job of the outside sales reps more. I went on a few ride-alongs throughout my 10 weeks, but I wish I got to work more with the outside sales reps. I got a very clear idea of what it was like to be an inside sales rep for the company, but not as much for the outside sales position.

Advice

My advice would be to be prepared to deal with all different sorts of people. On a day-to-day basis, you can run into angry customers unhappy with the company's service. You have to be prepared to deal with these type of people without getting upset or dwelling on it. Also, seek advice whenever you may need it. You will learn so much more by asking questions to those around you who have been working the position for years.

Intern

May - August 2019 • West Monroe, LA

What I liked

As an intern, I got to experience all kinds of positions offered at United Rentals and that was absolutely my favorite part. From being inside and working on the counter, to being out in the shop getting my hands dirty with the mechanics.

What I wish was different

I wish I had gotten to spend more time out in the field with Outside Sales Representatives. I would have also liked to have gone to another store with different equipment and get to see how they run their store!

Advice

Always keep a level mind. Never let personal feelings get in the way of work. Most importantly, have fun and enjoy the work you’re doing because it makes a HUGE difference.

Try something new. Put yourself out there. What's the worst that can happen? You apply, get an interview and don't get the internship? At least you got some experience from it. You tried.
