I learned a lot from this job as a graphic designer. Since a designer can be tasked with many types of designs, from digital to print and from booklets to emails, different skills are necessary to accomplish the assignments, and it is difficult to gage how good you need to be in a classroom setting. Taking on this position allowed me to understand the needs of the clients and the expectations of supervisors more than I ever could otherwise.
What I wish was different
The only issue I had was that even with the help of supervisors, it remains a shot-in-the-dark matter how much creative liberty I was allowed to take. But this isn't something that can be solved by explanations anyway, so I don't think anything needed to be different. I'm tasked just enough for me to learn, and not enough to ruin my work experience.
Advice
It's important to treat this as another advanced-level class in the sense that you'll learn a whole lot from working, that you're not merely trying to get in a few ours and take the paycheck home.
