University of Central Florida Government Relations

About University of Central Florida Government Relations

The Office of Government and Community Relations at the University of Central Florida serves as the official liaison between the University community and all levels of government. The office advocates for UCF’s funding priorities while building and strengthening relationships with government officials and agencies. This work reflects the University’s broader mission to unleash the potential of its students, faculty, staff, and community by advancing knowledge and discovery to address complex challenges and shape the future.

That mission is brought to life through the UCF Legislative Scholars Program, which offers a premier, immersive, full-time experience during the Spring 2027 Legislative Session. From the classroom to the Capitol, students gain firsthand exposure to the legislative process by working directly with legislative staff and professional lobbyists in Tallahassee, Scholars develop practical, nonpartisan experience in state government through hands-on responsibilities including research, bill tracking, constituent services, and other support. This experience offers an inside look at how laws are shaped, debated, and implemented at the state level.

Scholars are placed with a member of the Legislative Delegation or an established lobbying organization and are required to reside in Tallahassee throughout the legislative session and interim committee weeks. A shared apartment is provided, with rent fully covered by the program. Each selected Scholar is awarded a $3,000 scholarship for their participation in the program.

“If you are interested in government, this is a great internship to get your foot in the door. I learned a lot about the legislative process through hands-on training. I loved the fast-paced energy of Tallahassee, specifically, the Florida Capitol. The Legislative Scholars Internship will provide you with many opportunities unique to the experience. I highly recommend it!”

“One thing I enjoyed about this internship was the entire government relations team, not only did they facilitate this whole experience for myself and the other scholars but they made a genuine effort to make sure we were well-equipped and had everything we needed before going to Tallahassee. The transition was seamless and much of my success as an intern can be accredited to them. Other than that the internship itself was amazing, I learned and did more within the Florida Legislature than I could have possibly imagined.”
