My first job experience, working in a group, stretching my knowledge

Campus Planning Intern

May 2019 • Dartmouth, MA

What I liked

I had a great experience spending my summer on campus. I learned a lot during my internship and feel better prepared to graduate in the spring.

What I wish was different

Nothing.

Advice

An opportunity like this should only be taken if you are prepared to live away from home all summer. It’s a different experience when classes are not in session.

Biology Research Intern

May - September 2019 • Dartmouth, MA

What I liked

(Note: this was a summer research stipend from the OUR) Flexible schedule, highly independent work, free on-campus housing. Great experience for grad school applications (and learning in general)

What I wish was different

I wish I’d had a more detailed/well-scheduled battleplan sooner in the process, but part of the work was hashing that out.

Advice

Make a very specific plan with your faculty mentor and explain it in your stipend application. Get started on the application early and have people proofread it/make recommendations

Orientation Leader

July - August 2019 • Dartmouth, MA

What I liked

I liked the people I worked with and the job atmosphere. It was a fun and playful but sometimes serious job that had be excited everyday.

What I wish was different

What I wish was different would be the training hours and how long they were. Much information was repeated so we could learn it, but I understand why such was happening. I do not complain about it much because there was a method to the madness.

Advice

I would say, if you are planning on applying, do not forget that your number 1 job is to be there for the students, No matter how much fun you are having always try and get back to being student centered.

What I wish was different

I do not wish anything was different.

Advice
