Work study

May 2018 • Coral Gables, FL

What I liked

The location was very convenient

What I wish was different

I wish I had chosen a job more similar to my field/major. I worked at the School of Education, but am a pre-law student interested in business law.

Advice

Being a work study is probably the best way to attain skills without feeling the pressure of having to be a ‘real’ adult. Due to there not being pressure, I have more time to focus on the quality of my work. I am also less afraid to ask my supervisors and the professors questions.

Guide for parents and students mentor

May 2018 • Coral Gables, FL

What I liked

I love everything about my job! Having the opportunity to improve my public speaking skills, share my love for my university, make new friends, learn more about the university, and learn more about what admissions officers do (I aspire to become one as soon as I graduate) was an unforgettable experience.

What I wish was different

I would have liked more training on diversity.

Advice

It was extremely rewarding and brings awareness to the hard work that the admissions office does behind the scenes. It challenges one to develop not only professionally but also personally and increases appreciation for the university. I love the people I work with and what I do.
