The MD/PhD Scholars Program is designed to prepare a select group of outstanding students for careers in academic medicine and research. Students admitted to this highly competitive program pursue original research and participate in the medical school curriculum. The integrated training for both degrees allows compression of the total academic effort, as some course work can be applied to both degrees. By continually reinforcing the interaction between biomedical research and clinical care, this integration prepares the student for a unique role as a physician-scientist.
