AR Software Developer Intern

May - August 2021 • Menomonie, WI

What I liked

The client I worked with was one of the Digital Humanities professors who wanted us interns to design an augmented reality art tour known as SMARTArt. We met up and discussed how often we wanted to do our scrum meetings, and he was very kind to us, and very clear about how he wanted the software to function. It was a wonderful experience, and I enjoy showing off SMARTArt to hiring managers.

What I wish was different

I cannot think of anything I wished had been different. Our client (who was also our supervisor) was very trusting of us and left management of the project and the development completely up to us, and was very flexible with our workflow. As a result, the project not only turned out very well done, but it was also a very enjoyable work experience

Advice

As my first ever industry experience, I would say that it does not feel incredibly different from projects I do in classes, which I hope can alleviate any pressure that people just entering the industry are feeling.

What I liked

I enjoyed learning about Salesforce, including creating reports, dashboards, and learning a lot about the platform.

What I wish was different

I would have liked more participation in Sprints and other team meetings/discussions. Other than this, the opportunity was well-laid out for me.

Advice

Take advantage of a variety of learning opportunities. For this experience, I learned a lot about Salesforce, as previously mentioned.
