Corporate Communications Intern

June - August 2021 • Miami, FL

What I liked

As a corporate communications intern, I got to work with both the consumer/public relations team in Miami as well as the internal communications team in New York. I loved how fully integrated I was with both teams as I got to work on one press release for the Latin Grammy Awards, nominations for Billboard's Women in music, and Eurocup Soccer Tournament. I also played a major role in planning and executing the red carpet event for Premios Juventud, a music award show in Miami which I also got to attend. I also really enjoyed being exposed to professionals in all areas of the company, like digital marketing, entertainment, sports, and news. It was a very good educational experience as well because every week we had training sessions that would prepare us for our future professional careers by exposing us to the company's top executives.

What I wish was different

As the internship was fully remote, I wish they would have offered a hybrid work model so we could have gone into the office to get a full hand on experience and personally meet our team. As part of the internship program, we were assigned a group project with other interns to work on an aspect of the company that needed reinforcement. My team and I got assigned a project to revamp and redesign the finance website which I did not enjoy as much because it just seemed like busywork that nobody else wanted to handle.

Advice

To remain curious about the industry. Univision is a very big global company o there are a lot of fo areas of opportunity and growth. By remaining curious and asking questions you will get to learn about all these different areas, how they work together and how they function to make a global company run. As a company that is known for its diversity, it is also very important to keep an open mind and prepare yourself to collaborate with groups of colleagues who might have different backgrounds and ideals.
