Research Assistant

July - September 2018 • Beijing, China

What I liked

1. The experience of working within an office and collaborating with co-workers. 2. The experience of gathering huge amount of information and abstracting them to pull out the most important arguments. 3. The experience of reading government document, of learning the methods of approaching and understanding implications of high level government documents.

What I wish was different

1. More engagement with member companies and learning how to represent the organization that one is working for. 2. More learning of how to interact with people outside the organization and build up network.

Advice

The internship is very helpful for developing research and analysis skills in international business relations/government studies. It is important to be engaging in learning new skills and reading difficult documents with a analytical perspective. It is also important to have strong bi-lingual skills (in this case, Chinese and English) for you to fully engage in this experience.
