They didn't always notify me when the patients were unable to make it so I would go all the way down there and then be told there wasn't anything to do.
Advice
Have an open mind. The patients are generally friendly and you can have a great time interacting with them.

Advice
Get experience! It's easy to stay at a job that doesn't give you any experience for your future career just because it pays well or it's comfortable. Get out and volunteer or apply to new jobs.

Psychiatric Technician
May - August 2019 • Provo, UT
What I liked
Working with the patients and with the great staff. I loved being able to serve and learn about mental health
What I wish was different
I wish I had worked day shifts rather than the afternoon shifts. Working 12 hours instead of 8 might have been nice.
Advice
Go in with an intent to serve and learn. Try to actually get something other than money out of your experience

Psychiatric Technician
October 2018 • Provo, UT
What I liked
It is such a fun job. I was able to learn so much about mental illness and developed a great empathy for those who struggle with their mental health.
What I wish was different
The hours are a little hard to work around your schedule, but not impossible.
Advice
It is a great job if you're hoping to go into medicine. Over this past year, I have racked up around 1500 patient exposure hours and it's led to several shadowing opportunities.
