Student

June 2019 • Newport Beach, CA

What I liked

Due to a unique position financially and the support of my network, I was able to forego getting a normal job and drive for Uber. I did this in order to see the greater LA area and expose myself to people who normally don't get to see guys like me. I had good conversations, helped people where I could, and let them know that good people are still looking out for them in this world. It was akin to volunteering or doing community service work. I was able to work on a number of coding and IT related endeavors in my spare time as well as engage in a lot of irresponsible partying. I met many powerful people and challenged their assumptions about the world they live in and provided pro bono services to those who couldn't afford a traditional business / IT consultant.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been more proactive in finding stable employment. I fear my libertine attitude has compromised my future.

Advice

Don't pass over a good opportunity when one comes along. Rarely will they remain if passed over on the first go around. Seize the day and don't let indecision stop you from grabbing a lifeline. Also, don't sweat the small stuff. Many things will be outside of your control. If you don't know how to handle something that comes up, engage your network to help you.

Freelance Artist

June 2018 • Minneapolis, MN

What I liked

I liked the flexibility of my schedule, meeting new people from the Twin cities interested in their craft and the same field as i and expanding my portfolio. The paces I ended up in the Twin cities were all new and unexpected !

What I wish was different

At times I wished for my routine and and coordinated events between my employers and I. Additionally, variation in medium.

Advice

Never stop pushing the bounds for what you can do and who you will meet. There is no limit to what you can accomplish in a span of time and what you can learn from each experience. Trying something is not committing to a labeled industry forever. Your future and pursuits are unbound.
