Versum Materials Inc.

Manufacturing Engineering Intern

June - August 2020 • Allentown, PA

What I liked

What I enjoyed most was the genuine people I go to meet and learn from during this internship. Everyone was willing to take time out of their busy schedule to hop on a skype call to help and answer any questions I had. Another aspect I enjoyed was working on a team project where my role was creating SolidWorks drawings that were going to be sent directly to the customer, so I felt I was not only doing vital work, but also got to work in a team environment.

What I wish was different

I greatly enjoyed my time at Versum, and would not have wished for anything different. I was appreciative that I still had my internship in person because I not only gained critical technical skills, but also more importantly personal skills.

Advice

One piece of advice I would give is that you should try new experiences even if you do not know much about a given field. Coming from a biomedical engineering background, I did not know much about the semi-conductor industry, but after my internship it sparked a new passion and interest.

Summer Intern - Electrical/Computer Engineering

June - August 2020 • Breinigsville, PA

What I liked

I liked the hands-on experience while working in the lab.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to meet more people. Due to COVID-19 they ran at about 25-30% capacity in the office so I did not get a chance to meet many people.

Advice

Apply for anything that seems interesting to you. Even if you do not think you have a chance of getting it, you never know.

Research and Development Intern

May 2019 • Tempe, AZ

What I liked

I have really enjoyed being able to work in an industrial laboratory and manufacturing site. The opportunity to conduct research in cleanrooms and pilot plants was very rewarding. The responsibilities given to me have been significant, I've had real projects with real customers and deadlines, and my team has been very welcoming. I also have enjoyed the size of Versum Materials - being that there are a little over 200 R&D Chemists and Engineers, I know everybody and have had the chance to work with multiple different departments.

What I wish was different

I only wish that during the very beginning of my internship, I had a bit more structure. In the long run though, being treated as a new employee rather than an intern was beneficial for me and has given me more confidence.

Advice

For anyone looking to join our team here, I advise you to not be fearful. Nerves on the first day are great, it means you care, but the people here are kind enough to answer any question you have. The confidence is also important because it allows you to make strong connections, network, and be assigned a heavier workload.
