What I liked

I love helping to provide the children with a time they will never forget. Camp counselors are a big part of the kids experience and good counselors are remembered. Congruently, bad counselors are doubly impactful.

What I wish was different

I wish some of my co-counselors were a little easier to work with. Most of them were fantastic and just made it better, but a few bad apples made certain parts of the summer really rough. Of course, this can change every couple of years cause new staff is always coming in.

Advice

Childhood is a time when we have the least worries. I wish I could go back to those days often. Let kids be kids and don’t judge them. They are the purest and simultaneously most vulnerable people. Just show them love and care. They will remember it.

Advice

Be confident around children, and be a role model. Children are often easy to get to open up but you must be there to help them along the way with making friends and being sure that they are having a good time at camp. Commit to your training and you'll know what to do in a given situation. Most of all, I feel that one's goal when working with kids is to make their experience memorable, and by the end of it to have made a positive impact on their development.
