What I liked

I liked the freedom of the environment and being able to be creative. I also enjoyed having full range of creativity and working with the teams to showcase their talent.

What I wish was different

Advice

It's very time consuming, showing up to the athletic events and filming is the easiest part.

video intern

January - May 2023 • Webster Groves, MO

What I liked

Everything was very laid back and communication of expectations was clear.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been a bit more structure to everything. Even when working on scheduled jobs, everything seemed mostly off the cuff and we had to improvise a lot when things didn't go as expected.

Advice

Working on Ben's side with social media was great, but you may not get a ton of tips from him in terms of editing.

What I liked

I loved working with Leslie Wobbe and Nicole Springer, they both were very flexible and provided valuable feedback and guidance on my work.

What I wish was different

Advice

If you have an idea, please don't be afraid to suggest it. Take the initiative to suggest ideas and projects you think might work - even if they aren't put into plan right away, it shows that you care and lets you experience taking responsibility for the entire undertaking of a project.

What I liked

Great environment, everyone in my internship was very approachable and always helpful whenever I needed it.

What I wish was different

Nothing actually, I wouldn't want to intern at any other location.

Advice

Be patient. Understanding and acknowledging that when working with sports that require video and photo, it is important to be patient and not try to rush, or just go through the motions to get to where you want to be.

Webster Athletic Department

January - May 2021 • Webster Groves, MO

What I liked

I liked the camaraderie I had with the fellow interns and the laid back environment of the internship. Being able to commentate games as a college student was one of the most fun experiences throughout my four years with the University.

What I wish was different

I wish the season had been more spread out. Having eight weeks of games nearly everyday became very stressful at times, although the work was very rewarding to complete.

Advice

I suggest to other students to be willing to try everything you can during the internship, because it won't last forever. Try things you wouldn't be comfortable with, such as PA announcing, or writing stories just to get the experience.

What I liked

I loved the students most of all! They were well-behaved and appreciated the help! Also, they made summer even more fun. The teacher that I worked with was very kind, humorous and helpful. When we weren't working with students, she was giving us advice and telling us about her life.

What I wish was different

I only wish that the job could have been closer and that I could work with more students.

Advice

My best piece of advice is to be flexible!
