Wells Enterprises Inc.

Finance/Accounting Intern

June - August 2020 • Le Mars, IA

What I liked

Wells offered an amazing opportunity to grow and develop skills that will ensure success in the field of corporate finance. I was impressed by the finance team and their efforts to create a meaningful, fully remote, learning experience despite the unique circumstances COVID-19 brought this summer. Along with meeting the value-focused team, each supervisor made it priority to teach and help me develop as an aspiring financial professional. Clear and constant communication allowed the team to successfully illustrate their objectives for the work I was helping to complete. The team at Wells made me feel welcomed and appreciated!

What I wish was different

I wish that we could have been able to spend more time in Corporate Center (thanks COVID) and that this internship didn't have to end!

Advice

Be open to learning new things right from the get go and don't be afraid to ask lots of questions! The internship coordinators desire to expand your horizon of corporate finance and by doing so they assign tasks that may seem out of your wheelhouse, but ask questions and learn as much as you can (the time goes fast!).

Finance Intern

May - October 2019 • Lemars, IA

What I liked

Wells provided an experience that taught me much more than any classroom. With an accounting degree, you become so accustomed to learning to be a CPA, that you forget the other applications of your degree. Wells offered that experience of a close knit, corporation environment far from any classes you've ever had.

Advice

More than anything, always keep an open mind.

Software Developer Intern

May - August 2019 • Le Mars, IA

What I liked

I went into this job with only a basic understanding of C. I had never used an object-oriented language, so C# was definitely not a language I was comfortable with. Even so, they took me in and taught me what I needed to know. I felt like I was part of a team and that I could ask anyone for help if I needed it. Also having unlimited free ice cream was a nice touch

What I wish was different

I spent my first two weeks watching coding tutorials about C#. Personally I don't think I absorbed a single thing from these videos, as this just isn't how I learn. If I could change anything about this internship it would be those videos. I think I would have learned more if I was given small projects to start with just to learn the basics.

Advice

Make sure to ask questions as soon as you are confused about something. Don't be afraid to look stupid. The people around you truly want to help, you just have to ask.

Customer Service Representative Intern

May - August 2018 • Le Mars, IA

What I liked

Seeing how a large corporation operates in different way, especially when communicating with people from all over the world.

What I wish was different

A more 'equal relationship' between all members of the corporation, not matter each person's position or status - remembering that everyone is still human.

Advice

This experience helped me really develop my professional emailing and calling skills, and also in creating and growing relationships with your buyers. I had to know my customers and respond to different circumstances in a quick and responsible manner, which really helped me to grow my skills. It may seems overwhelming when your first walk into the job, but be patient and ask lots of questions, and you will go far!
