Summer Crew

May - August 2019 • Bowling Green, KY

What I liked

It was a good community, and helped me learn more about what happens behind the scenes on campus.

What I wish was different

I wish that things had been more organized from the start, as I feel we could've accomplished more if the different groups had been more communicative and had planned what they would need to do over the summer, along with a schedule of what to do and when.

Advice

I would recommend everyone try to get involved with the campus itself like this. Not like DAs where people think you are connected to everything, but where you actually have to make decisions and contribute to the condition of the university.

Student Assistant

January 2019 • Bowling Green, KY

What I liked

I love the people I work with and the work environment.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more work to do at times.

Advice

It is a minimum wage job, but that does not mean it is a minimum effort job. Working in the GFCB Dean's office hold's a high standard. Even though it is not always busy, you have to work hard to prove your worth.

GIS Intern

May 2019 • Bowling Green, KY

What I liked

Working with information I found interesting and utilizing cartographic skills for a useful end product. It was my first office job, which is a great experience. I had a lot of independent working time, as opposed to being micromanaged. Also, since it was on campus, I could continue working and learning through the school year.

What I wish was different

I wish my office had windows.

Advice

While I never thought I would want to work with buildings, this experience showed me that the behind-the-scenes work is not always what you expect. I would advise those applying for internships to keep an open mind for the kind of work they might do, because you might find a passion or interest you didn't know you had. At the very least, you will have new knowledge in a field.
