Administrative Assistant

February 2021 - April 2022 • Canyon, TX

What I liked

When there was a lack of work to do, I could work on homework. I developed skills I didn’t have before, and learned how to operate in an environment I was not used to.

What I wish was different

I wish it would’ve been less drama, gossip and more maturity in the office. I wish when my responsibilities increased that my pay would’ve reflected that.

Advice

If you can handle drama, cussing, and demanding bosses, go for it, but if you want to be respected and not talked about behind your back, this is not the job for you. Be willing to stand up for yourself and don’t allow them to walk all over you.

Marketing Intern

June - August 2019 • Canyon, TX

What I liked

I learned a ton. It was a small marketing department, meaning I always had plenty to do. I assumed a lot of jobs that did not fall strictly within marketing, either. At the time, I was a journalism major, and the information I learned was still applicable to my desired field. Now that I'm a policy studies major, I'm still using a lot of that same information.

What I wish was different

Some sort of pay would have been nice, at least for working events.

Advice

Come in ready to be independent. They won't offer a lot of help; you're expected to figure things out yourself. Luckily, I had Google on my side, and I quite liked the independence.
