What I liked
many opportunities and support to learn under guidance of mentor, those who run the program here are a huge help not just with the program but with overall academic success, great support for conferences and stipend relieves the need to work while in school. An abundance of information and preparation for graduate school.
What I wish was different
more opportunities for grant writing experience, more opportunities for second year students to design and lead their own research project under supervision of the mentor to help build the level of scientific thinking that would help one to excel in a Ph.D program as well as build independence and responsibility. More workshops that offer research based training opportunities such as gaining training on new equipment or techniques.
Advice
get in to the program as early as possible and stay as long as possible while making the most of every semester in the program. It is highly valuable experience if one makes the most of it.

It takes up a lot of your time so I would say don't do too much. I was working, taking summer classes, and doing the research while having health issues.

What I liked
Being a group leader was a very enlightening experience, I really enjoyed working with younger students, from middle school students to high school juniors. I gain knowledge on different learning methods and which teaching styles were most beneficial for the students.
What I wish was different
I wish the programs have been longer, both MATHSTAR and CHEMSTAR only spanned three weeks but all in all it was a very rewarding experience.
Advice
Keep an open mind and be sure to review the materials before hand to be as helpful as possible to the students.
