I like that it I was never bored at my job. I had the chance to impact younger kids lives while having fun.
What I wish was different
I wish we had been paid more considering the situations and time employees are put in.
Advice
I would say that patience is a skill needed for this position as well as compassion and a love for kids.

What I liked
I love the children I work with and care about them. During the school year is great and a dream. During the summer it can be fantastic if you’re with a specific group of kids that doesn’t change. As in, you’re the specific counselor for kids for a prolonged period of time.
What I wish was different
I was given no proper training for special needs children and was expected to know how to interact with and be able to handle different severe disabilities.
Advice
It’s fun if you can gain the respect of the children you work with. When I was substituting at different camps once in a while, the children didn’t know me and this didn’t respect me. Treat them how you would’ve loved to be treated at their age.
